For Providers

Information for referring providers.

502 MYO coordinates with referring providers across many disciplines. Here's what to expect, what to send, and how we work together.

Scope of practice

502 MYO addresses the muscle and habit side of oral function: tongue posture, lip seal, swallow pattern, breathing mode, and related habits. We do not diagnose or treat dental, ENT, orthodontic, or sleep conditions; we support treatment already underway or being initiated by a referring provider.

For tongue-tie, we work pre- and post-frenectomy. The therapy before and after the release is the part that determines whether the release works long-term.

For sleep-disordered breathing, therapy addresses the muscle tone of the upper airway. We coordinate with your sleep medicine plan; we are not a substitute for it.

Disciplines we work with

Dentists

For patients with airway, tongue posture, or habit concerns affecting restorative and cosmetic work.

ENTs / Otolaryngologists

Pre/post-frenectomy therapy and sleep-disordered-breathing muscle work.

Orthodontists

Pre- and post-orthodontic therapy to reduce the risk of relapse and support treatment.

Sleep medicine

Myofunctional therapy as part of a multi-disciplinary approach to snoring and sleep apnea.

Pediatricians

For mouth-breathing, tongue-tie, and habit concerns in children.

Lactation consultants (IBCLCs)

Pre-release and post-release support for infants and breastfeeding parents.

Speech-language pathologists

For articulation patterns with a muscle-tone or posture component.

What to send with a referral

  1. The patient's name and best contact phone.
  2. The reason for referral in one sentence.
  3. Anything specific you'd like us to evaluate or coordinate on (e.g., post-frenectomy day-7 follow-up, pre-orthodontic posture baseline).
  4. Whether you'd like a written summary back.
