What is myofunctional therapy?
Myofunctional therapy is a program of exercises that retrain the muscles of the face, mouth, and tongue. It addresses oral posture, swallow pattern, breathing, and related muscle habits. The goal is proper rest posture (tongue up, lips closed, nasal breathing) and proper function (correct swallow, clear speech, restful sleep).
Who can benefit?
Adults and children with mouth breathing, tongue-tie (pre/post frenectomy), snoring, sleep-disordered breathing, TMJ disorders, tongue thrust, thumb sucking, dental crowding or orthodontic relapse, clenching and grinding, and swallowing difficulties. We're happy to talk on the phone about whether we're the right place to start.
How long does a program take?
Most programs run 4–9 months with short daily home practice plus in-person sessions every 2–4 weeks. The exact length depends on your specific pattern and your consistency with home practice.
Do you take insurance?
No. 502 MYO is a cash-pay practice. We provide a superbill you may submit to your insurer for possible out-of-network reimbursement. HSA / FSA cards are accepted.
Do you offer telehealth?
Telehealth is not currently offered for evaluations. Some follow-up sessions may be available by phone when appropriate.
How do I book?
Use the booking link to go to our secure SimplePractice scheduling portal, or call (502) 901-8089. A credit card is required at booking; the card is charged only if you cancel inside 24 hours.
Do you see children?
Yes — children of all ages, including infants with feeding concerns. We're happy to talk with a parent first to help you decide whether an evaluation is the right next step.
What happens at the first visit?
A 60-minute evaluation. We'll ask about history, observe oral posture, swallow, tongue mobility, and breathing, and discuss findings and recommendations at the end of the visit.
Can you work with my dentist / ENT / orthodontist?
Yes. We routinely coordinate with referring providers. If you have one, let us know and we'll loop them in.
